A lot of women are going natural today to experience the different benefits of being natural and for the chance to grow long, healthy hair. I believe that all hair types and textures are gorgeous, and I also fully support any woman who chooses to wear her hair however she pleases. It’s a choice that should be made solely on what pleases the individual.
On the other hand, in the time that I’ve been natural, I found that natural hair has given me a lot of flexibility and joy that I didn’t experience before I did the big chop. There are many benefits to having natural hair, so if you are on the fence about finally taking the leap then I hope this helps you along the way.
Going natural doesn’t necessarily mean that your life will suddenly change forever. What it means is that you’ll have the chance to see yourself in your natural state which will help you to accept what’s in the mirror. That is exactly what it did for me.
I know a lot of women struggle with accepting their hair in its natural state because they are used to wearing their hair long and straight, or they are used to seeing beauty advertised as long, straight-haired, beautiful women with fair skin. It may be a struggle in the beginning, but it is so worth it in the end.
I remember feeling like I made the wrong decision for a couple of weeks. I felt like my hair wasn’t going to grow long, and I stayed inside for a couple of days. After about a month I felt the exact opposite. I finally accepted myself as I was, I disregarded other people’s negative opinions, and I just loved me!
So ladies, if you accept and love yourself you can conquer the world.
P.S. Your hair will grow! 🙂

2. Thicker Hair.
Having thicker and fuller strands is a huge benefit of rocking your hair in its natural state. Your hair will be free of any chemicals or concoctions that may cause hair loss or thinning hair. By no means am I saying that one can’t damage their hair in its natural state, but any damage that may be caused by relaxers, color treatments, texturizers, etc is eliminated.
3. No more sweating out relaxers!
Yes you don’t have to worry about skipping the gym, beach or that party ever again. No more letting your hair dictate what you can or cannot do. Girl just put that hair up in a bun or some twists and go out and enjoy life.
4. Retain Length.
While going natural doesn’t exactly guarantee you long waist length hair, it does play a huge role in the process. Growing your hair long and healthy is directly proportional to great haircare practices, good health, and great products.
However, natural hair is healthier than chemically treated hair because the hair has not been compromised by harmful chemicals that weaken the strands. This means it’s stronger and can withstand more manipulation, and it also means that you will have less breakage and split ends. You will have an overall healthier journey.
This one is my favorite! While I was relaxed I used to do a lot of twist outs and braid outs on my hair. I found that these styles made my hair looked thicker, and I loved how cute they were. This then gave me the idea that I could do a lot more with my hair if it was in its natural state.
Natural hair is quite versatile! There are many different ways that you can wear your hair without having to worry about sweating it out or having the rain ruin your perm. You can rock a twist out, braid out, wash and go, or even the straight look without using chemicals on your hair.
6. You can use natural products!
Rocking your beautiful curls in its natural state means that you can use products from mother earth. The hair is at its best when you use products that it loves. Chemically treated hair does not like natural products, in fact it may get hard and dry after using them. Products that are formulated for chemically treated hair usually always have chemicals in them to cater to the strands to avoid breakage and to keep them ‘strong’.
7.It’s healthier for our hair and body.
We all know that the chemicals and heat that we constantly use on our hair is quite damaging. Our scalp absorbs whatever we put on it (which include relaxers and chemically laden products), and that can introduce harmful agents into our bodies. Chemicals weakens the strands, strip the hair of its luster, and causes thin hair overtime, so if you can live without it then that would be great for your overall health.
