Getting ready for that job interview or new job?
Can’t figure out how to style your hair for your first day of work?
Unfortunately many black women in the corporate world struggle with finding ‘professional’ natural hairstyles that compliment their work environment. But who determines what’s professional? Why isn’t a black woman’s hair accepted in its natural glory in the corporate world? Do we have to straighten our hair just to be accepted in a place that we are more than qualified to work in?
These are questions that we have been forced to think deeply about, but contrary to popular belief we can still rock our curls and be great at what we do. Here are 5 professional natural hairstyles that you can rock on a job interview or on your first day of work!
A bun can be anything that you want it to be. You can wear it high, low or in any variation that you choose. It is a style that has been around for ages, and it’s a look that many women opt for in the corporate world. If you are interested in this look then here’s a video showing a tutorial on this wonderful and versatile style.
Wearing natural hair down and free in the workplace is a huge controversy, and many women might not feel comfortable wearing their hair down because they think that it may cost them their jobs. But contrary to what many believe it is a beautiful style that can be worn at work while still pulling off the professional look. This style was a staple of mine in my former workplace, and girl I rocked that hair like I just didn’t care (and no I didn’t get fired for wearing my hair down….lol).
3. Roll, Tuck, Pin
This style is a vintage look that has been worn for many years. There are many versions to this look, and you should feel free to mix it up until you get the perfect look that you want. You can do this style on your natural curls or on stretched hair (if you have shorter hair).
4.Perm Rod Set
So what if I have short hair? Short hair can also look professional and extremely cute if you find the right styles. The perm rod set or a finger coil style is perfect for women with TWA’s, and it gives the hair a refined look that blends in to the professional environment.
5. Halo Crown Braid
This style is another cute ‘hairdo’ that can be worn on a date but also looks great in a professional setting. You can do this style on stretched hair if you have shorter hair, but for a fuller look I would recommend that you style your hair without the stretch.
